Life is disturbed due to heavy rains in Kerala, ‘Orange Alert’ released in six districts

Normal life has been affected by heavy rains in various parts of Kerala. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released ‘Orange Alert’ in six districts of the state on Friday.

IMD also stated that the monsoon is expected to knock in the state in the next two days and heavy rains in Kerala during the next seven days. The Meteorological Department has released ‘Orange Alert’ in the districts of Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod.

The department has also released ‘Red Alerts’ for 25 to 26 May in Kannur and Kasargod and 25 and 26 May in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. IMD also released ‘Red Alert’ in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts for 26 May. The Meteorological Department released ‘Orange Alert’ for May 24 in nine districts of the state, 7 May on 25, May 26 and six districts on 27 May.

‘Red Alert’ shows heavy rainfall of 11 to 20 cm in ‘Orange Alert’ and six cm in yellow alert in ‘Orange Alert’ in 24 hours.

IMD also stated that strong winds are expected to blow in coastal areas and interiors and people, including fishermen, have been advised to take precautionary steps.

The Meteorological Department directed that fishing will not be allowed on the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coast from Friday to 27 May. Meanwhile, the National Ocean Information Services Center (INCOIS) said that on Saturday, waves of 3.5 meters high are likely to rise at various places in the coastal areas of the state.
