Importance of Furfura Sharif
Furfura Sharif, a revered place for Bengali Muslims, holds significant religious and political significance in the state. Pir Saheb Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddiqui’s great -grandson Navsad Siddiqui, whose tomb is located in Furfura Sharif, is an influential person. Currently, he is the only non-TMC, non-BJP MLA in the Bengal Legislative Assembly, who represents Bhanghar with the support of the Left and Congress.
Minority vote bank and Mamta’s political strategy
The number of Muslims and other minorities of Bengal voters is about one third and since the 2009 Lok Sabha elections they have been continuously supporting Mamata Banerjee. Their efforts to maintain the support of minorities have become important as the BJP emerges as the main opposition, especially at 120 out of 294 assembly seats, where they have decisive influence.

Navsad Siddiqui’s meeting with Mamta gave air to speculation
