Internet ban extended for two more days in violence affected districts of Manipur. Earlier, the Manipur government has temporarily suspended internet and mobile data services in seven districts of Manipur for two days from 5:15 pm on Saturday. According to the government order, the affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kanakpokpi and Churachandpur. The GoM under the Telecom Suspension of Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017 said the ongoing conflict in some parts of the state is likely to cause serious disturbance to peaceful co-existence and maintenance of public order. Hereby order temporary suspension/pause on Internet and mobile data services including VSAT, Broadband (IIL and FTTH) and VPN services.

The situation in Manipur remains volatile and security has been beefed up after Saturday’s large-scale arson, where houses of MLAs and ministers were targeted. Protests were held outside Raj Bhavan and BJP party office in Imphal. On Sunday, protesters placed iron bars on the roads despite the curfew. A mob tried to enter the ancestral residence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh at Luwangshangbam in Imphal East district. However, security forces managed to foil their entry. The crowd has gone on a rampage in violence-hit Jiribam district after bodies of six missing women and children were recovered. Some of the bodies, which have not yet been identified by family members, are believed to be those of six women and children missing since November 11 in Jiribam district.

Curfew has been imposed in many areas and the internet ban has been extended to two more districts, Jiribam and Pherzaul. Internet and mobile data service in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Kangpokpi and Churachandpur was temporarily suspended for two days on Saturday. The mob set fire to the residences of PWD Minister Govinddas Konthoujam and four other MLAs – three from BJP and one from Congress – in Ningthoukhong in different districts of Manipur Valley since Saturday night. Police said the mob attacked the residences of ministers Sapam Ranjan Singh, Leeshangthem Susindro Meitei and Yumnam Khemchand Singh at different places.
