Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati made a big announcement on Sunday saying that her party will no longer contest any by-election. Mayawati has taken this decision after suffering a crushing defeat in the by-elections held on nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Not only this, the BSP chief alleged rigging in the elections and also raised questions on EVMs.
Mayawati said, ‘After the voting this time in the by-elections held on 9 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh and the results that came yesterday, there is a general discussion among the people that first in the country, to win the elections through ballot paper. By misusing power, fake votes were cast and now this work is also being done through EVM, which is a matter of great sadness and concern for democracy.

He said, ‘Now this work is being done quite openly, especially in the by-elections, along with the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections in the country. We have seen all this in the recently held by-elections of Uttar Pradesh. A lot of voices are being raised regarding this even in the general elections held in the Maharashtra state assembly. This is also a big alarm bell for our country and democracy.
Announcing the decision of not contesting the by-elections, Mayawati said, ‘In such a situation, our party has now decided that till no strict steps are taken by the Election Commission of the country to stop the casting of fake votes in the country, Till then our party will not contest any by-election in the country. Our party will fight the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections and local body elections in the country with full preparation and strength.
