Maharashtra Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde has been convicted in the domestic violence case. The Bandra Family Court has ruled in favor of complainant Karuna Sharma. Magistrate AB Jadhav issued an order to the minister to pay Rs 1.25 lakh per month to the complainant and Rs 75,000 per month to a daughter. Additionally, the court gave Rs 25,000 as compensation to cover the cost of the application. The woman filed a case under Section 23 of the Women’s Security Act, 2005 from domestic violence, claiming that her inter -caste love marriage with the minister in 1998 was initially stable but started deteriorating in 2018.

She alleged that she married a second marriage under family pressure, but assured her that she would retain her status as his first wife. He accused the minister of preventing him from going to his original place and giving physical threats from his followers. He also alleged that he was sexually assaulted by his colleagues when he tried to go to his village in 2020.

Denying the allegations of the woman, the minister said that he never married her and has no domestic relationship with her. She argued that she was financially independent, handled business and actively involved in politics. He also stated that the Bombay High Court had earlier stopped him from making public statements against him. Despite the minister’s claims, the court found evidence of supporting the allegations of the woman prima facie. The judge said that the complainant has been identified as his wife in the documents including the affidavits submitted to the Election Commission. The court found that the woman and her two children were being ignored from 2018.
