Sharjah. Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has announced that he will retire from ODI cricket after the Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year. After Afghanistan’s 2-1 ODI series win over Bangladesh here on Monday, the 39-year-old Nabi said he was considering quitting the format after the ODI World Cup last year. Nabi, who was named the best player of the series, told the official broadcaster, “Since the last World Cup, I had in my mind that I am retiring but after that we qualified for the Champions Trophy and I thought that if I play in this then It will be wonderful.”
Nabi has played 167 ODIs since 2009, scoring 3,600 runs in 147 innings at an average of 27.48 and a strike rate of 86.99, including two centuries and 17 half-centuries. His best score is 136 runs. He has also taken 172 wickets in 161 innings of bowling at an average of 32.47 and economy rate of 4.27. He has taken four wickets in an innings four times and five wickets once. Afghanistan qualified for the Champions Trophy by finishing sixth in last year’s World Cup. The Afghanistan team will participate for the first time in this eight-team tournament which will be organized in Pakistan in February next year.
