The conspiracy to assassinate Raja Raghuvanshi was hatched by wife Sonam
King Raghuvanshi (29) was found dead in a deep ditch in Meghalaya on 3 June, after more than two weeks he went to the northeast kingdom for a honeymoon with his wife Sonam (25). Police said Sonam, along with three friends of her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, conspired to assassinate her. Police arrested Sonam (24) on Monday for conspiring to kill the king during his honeymoon in Sohra, Meghalaya. The king was allegedly murdered by Sonam with mercenary killers. Sonam surrendered to the police at Nandganj police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, three attackers – Akash Rajput (19), Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) and Raj Singh Kushwaha (21) were arrested.

Speaking to the ANI news agency on Tuesday, a day after Sonam’s arrest, Mohan Yadav said that the society can learn many lessons from this murder. Massacre
Raja and Sonam were married on 11 May in Indore. Police sources said that Sonam started plotting to murder after returning to her maternal home on 15 May. To avoid intimacy with the king and buy time, he persuaded him to go to Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati before going to Meghalaya for honeymoon. On 23 May, the couple checked out of a homestay in Nongriat. Ten days later, the king’s body was found in a valley 20 km away, while the search for the missing Sonam was started. According to the police, Sonam’s associates- Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi attacked the king and then killed him and then threw his body. The three are allegedly accused of Raj Kushwaha, who is also accused of plotting to murder Sonam. Sonam again surfaced and surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh on 8 June. All the five accused are currently in custody of Meghalaya Police for further investigation.
The king’s mother initially expressed disbelief over Sonam’s involvement, but gradually she was convinced of her possible role. The king’s father has demanded a death penalty for all responsible people. Meanwhile, Sonam’s mother described her daughter as innocent and claimed to be false.
