A senior police official said that the Maoist group JJMP chief Lohra and another of its associates were killed in a forest under the Latehar police station area during the anti -Naxalite joint operation of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police.
Security forces killed Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) supremo Pappu Lohra and his second leader Prabhat Gangu after an encounter in the morning in the wishes under the boundary of Latehar police station on Saturday. JMM is a banned group of CPI Maoists. Confirming this, Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav said, “Lohra had a reward of Rs 10 lakh, while Ganjhu had a reward of Rs 5 lakh. Both of them were killed in retaliatory firing. An INSAS rifle was recovered. The search for weapons and ammunition is going on.”

Palamu Deputy Inspector General of Police YS Ramesh said, “Two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces. The police have recovered their bodies. ”Police said the body of Lohra and another person has been recovered. It said that apart from Lohra, the second Naxalite killed has not been identified yet. Sources said that another member of the group has been injured who has been arrested and an INSAS rifle has been recovered from him.
The police officer said that on receiving information about Lohra and his associates being in the forest, a team of security personnel led by Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav started a search operation. Police said, “The Maoists started firing on seeing the security personnel, after which the personnel of the security forces also retaliated.
