Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that on August 15, 2025, a new fastag-based annual pass worth Rs 3,000 would be launched, allowing non-commercial vehicles to facilitate uninterrupted journey on the country’s highway networks. The purpose of this initiative announced on Wednesday is to increase the convenience of passengers on national highways. Sharing the announcement on X (East Twitter), Gadkari said that in a transformative step towards the trouble-free highway travel, we are presenting a fastag-based annual pass priced at Rs 3,000, which will be effective from 15 August 2025.

Gadkari said that for one year from the date of activation to one year or from 200 visits- whatever is earlier- it is designed for non-commercial private vehicles especially non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps and vans. The objective of this initiative is to make the journey on national highways smooth and more economical for private vehicle owners. It is part of the government’s extensive efforts to digitize and streamlines road transport systems, as well as provides financial relief and flexibility to those who consistently uses highways.
Gadkari further stated that users will soon be able to activate and renew the annual pass by using a dedicated link available on the highway travel app, as well as through the official websites of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MRTH). He said that the annual pass will enable uninterrupted and cost -effective travel on national highways across the country. A dedicated link for activation and renovation will soon be made available on the highway travel app as well as the official websites of NHAI and MORTH.

This policy removes long -standing concerns about toll plazas located within a 60 -kilometer limit and simplifies toll payments through single, affordable transactions. By reducing waiting time, reducing congestion and reducing disputes over the toll plaza, the aim of the annual pass is to provide a fast and accessible travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners.
