Seoul. North Korea accused South Korea of flying drones over its capital to drop anti-state propaganda material and threatened to take strong retaliation against such activity in the future. North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that South Korean drones were reported flying over the capital Pyongyang on October 3 and last Wednesday and Thursday. The ministry accused South Korea of violating North Korea’s sovereignty and threatening its security.
The ministry said its forces would “make all-out preparations to attack” and that if South Korean drones were seen again in North Korean territory, they would take strong retaliation without warning. South Korea’s government and military did not immediately react to North Korea’s statement.
Tensions between the two countries have increased in recent months as North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stepped up weapons tests and threatened attacks and South Korea stepped up joint military exercises with the United States. North Korea on Wednesday said it would permanently block its border with South Korea and develop frontline defense capabilities to deal with “provocative actions” by South Korean and US forces.
