Public debate broke out on social media between Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his predecessor Mehbooba Mufti on Friday demanding the revival of the Tulbul Shipping Project. Mehbooba Mufti accused the government of taking steps between India and Pakistan amidst ending enmity. However, Abdullah alleged that Mufti was trying to make cheap campaigning by opposing this idea and some people in Pakistan. The Tulbul navigation project aims to revive the Wular lake flowing from Jhelum in Bandipura district.

Sharing a video on X, he wrote that Wular Lake in North Kashmir. The civil work you are watching in the video is Tulbul navigation barrage. It was launched in the early 1980s, but had to leave it under the pressure of Pakistan citing the Indus Water Treaty. The leader of the National Conference said that if the Tulbul project is completed, it will help in using the Jhelum river for shipping. This will give us the benefit of using the Jhelum River for shipping. This will also improve the power generation of downstream power projects.
