In view of the Pahalgam terror attack, India can announce the end of the ceasefire in the coming days. CNN-News18 quoted top military officials as saying that New Delhi is seriously considering it as Pakistan has been unable to fulfill its commitments along the Line of Control and International Border. Despite the ceasefire agreement in February 2021, Pakistan-based terrorist groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let), Jaish-e-Mohammed and The Resistance Front (TRF) continue to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan has also violated ceasefire with sniper attacks and shelling and these incidents have increased between 2023 and 2024. Sources told CNN-News 18 that the top security mechanism is fully prepared for the termination of ceasefire and is capable of dealing with it if any results are produced. He said that India has every right to protect its borders and citizens and a decision will be taken in this regard.
He further said that the fresh terrorist attack in Pahalgam reflects Islamabad’s failure to eliminate the terror structure. He said that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is also committed to providing logistics assistance, training and safe refuge to terrorists. Sources said that Pakistan has repeatedly violated the commitments made to the Financial Action Work Force (FATF) and international partners to crack down on terrorist financing. He said that groups like Lashkar/TRF are working openly under new names.
