The NCP was divided into two factions in July last year after Ajit Pawar and eight MLAs joined the Shinde government. After the Election Commission’s decision, Ajit Pawar got the party’s name and ‘clock’ symbol.

While the faction led by Sharad Pawar was named NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) and was given the symbol of ‘man blowing trumpet’. While campaigning in Baramati, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “You must be thinking that I should not have left Pawar Saheb at this age.” I did not leave Saheb. I told him that it is the opinion of all the MLAs that we should join the (Shinde) government because many of the development works that we had approved (under the Maha Vikas Aghadi government) have been stopped. The MLAs also signed (in support of the proposal to join the government).”

I will participate in a rally here tomorrow and Pawar Saheb will also hold a rally. I will present my views before you. You decide who to vote for for the sake of future generations.” Ajit Pawar will face NCP (SP) candidate and his nephew Yugendra Pawar in Baramati in the assembly elections to be held on November 20. Ajit Pawar has been MLA from Baramati since 1991.
