The Pakistan Cricket Board will seek clarification from the ICC regarding hosting of the Champions Trophy 2025 as it has only been told that the Indian team will not come for the tournament but no information has been given on the proposal of hybrid model. ICC has told PCB that BCCI will not send its team to Pakistan for the tournament to be held in February next year. BCCI informed this to the International Cricket Council.
An informed source of PCB has said that there has been no talk about holding the Champions Trophy on hybrid model. Last year, a hybrid model was adopted in the Asia Cup when India’s matches were played in Sri Lanka and all the other matches were played in Pakistan. There is speculation that India’s matches may be held in Dubai. The source said that the PCB will talk to its legal advisors and send an email to the ICC. In which clarification will be sought on India’s decision. The PCB is in touch with the government for advice and instructions if necessary.
The source also said that if the Pakistan government takes a tough decision on cricket relations with India, it could have legal consequences for the ICC. He said there could be legal consequences from commercial partners as the ICC has told broadcasters and sponsors that all top cricket-playing nations will participate in tournaments. The Indian team has not played Pakistan since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Both the teams play each other only in ICC tournaments.
