Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the Pahalgam terror attack, which includes the onset of major infrastructure and developmental initiatives in his high-level agenda. Modi wrote on X that tomorrow, June 6, is a really special day for my brothers and sisters of Jammu and Kashmir. Major infrastructure projects costing Rs 46,000 crore are being inaugurated, which will have a very positive impact on people’s lives.

Narendra Modi said that apart from being an extraordinary achievement of architecture, the Chenab Rail Bridge will improve contact between Jammu and Srinagar. The Fort Bridge is India’s first cable-set rail bridge in the challenging area. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project ensures contact in all weather and Vande Bharat trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar will promote spiritual tourism and create livelihood opportunities.
Omar Abdullah wrote on X that Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the world’s tallest railway bridge, Chenab Bridge, to review the preparations for the journey to be held tomorrow. Tomorrow is a historic day for Jammu and Kashmir, when the valley will finally be connected to the rest of the country through railway links, which will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Vande Bharat trains will be flagged off between Chenab Bridge as well as Prime Minister Katra and Srinagar. These trains will reduce the travel time between the two cities by 2-3 hours, which will reduce the total journey of about 3 hours and will improve inter-state traffic.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate India’s first cable-set Railway Bridge Anji Bridge. It is designed to serve in one of the most geographically challenging areas of the country, which will further improve the rail connectivity of Jammu and Kashmir. Another major announcement is the beginning of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Spread to 272 km, the project has 36 tunnels (119 km distance) and 943 bridges, and aims to provide rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India in all seasons.
