As Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has traveled to Sri Lanka thrice in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Connectivity and economic relations between the two countries are likely to be discussed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi can go on a visit to Sri Lanka in April, which shows a strong relationship between India and Sri Lanka. This will be his first visit after the change of power in Sri Lanka. Prime Minister Modi’s visit will be held after Sri Lankan President Aruna Disanayake’s visit to Delhi in December. As Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has traveled to Sri Lanka thrice in 2015, 2017 and 2019. Connectivity and economic relations between the two countries are likely to be discussed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit.

According to a report, a new boat route is being discussed between Rameswaram in India and Talimner of Sri Lanka. The multi-product petroleum pipeline connecting Nagapattinam between India and Sri Lanka to Tinkomali is also likely to move forward. The Indian Oil Corporation is a prominent player in this project. Disanayake invited Prime Minister Modi to visit Sri Lanka as soon as possible during his three -day visit to India in December, which will be his first foreign trip after taking over in September 2024. During their discussions, the two leaders vowed to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries and convert relations into a new standard for friendly and neighboring relations.

Disanayake had described his visit to India as quite successful and emphasized that he had a “productive discussion” with the Indian leadership and business community during the journey. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Sri Lanka three times since 2014. The Prime Minister’s last visit to Sri Lanka took place in June 2019 to express solidarity after the Easter Sunday attacks. Earlier, Prime Minister Modi visited Sri Lanka in March 2015, which was the first bilateral visit of a Prime Minister of India since 1987 and in May 2017 he went there as the chief guest of the first International Wasak Day organized by Sri Lanka.
