Pope Leo XIV Inaugural Mass: New Pope Leo-14 took oath, cardinal dressed, gave the message of unity

The swearing-in ceremony of the new Pope Leo-14th on St. Peter Square in Vatican took place on 18 May. Many leaders from all over the world reached Vatican. The Pope was given a religious cloth and a ring. Religious clothes are a symbol of taking over the new Pope. The Pope rode in an open car. The Pope shook hands with a smile from the back of the vehicle and greeted him to bless some children in the crowd. Leo said on this occasion that he wants to become servants of the people through the message of love and solidarity. Greeting more than 200,000 pilgrims, leaders from all over the world and representatives of Christian sects, Pope Leo XIV started with the pleasure of its Petrin Ministry. Several religious delegations present at the ceremony included Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis and Jains.

Expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the prayerful and enjoyable support given to him while starting his pastor ministry as the Pope, Leo XIV recalled the acute feelings experienced in the last few weeks. He said that after the death of Francis, we were feeling like a shepherd’s sheep. Nevertheless, after receiving his final blessings on Easter Sunday, and with the eyes of faith, hope and happiness, we recalled how God never leaves his people. The Pope thanked everyone for supporting the cardinal meeting at the Conclave to choose the successor of Peter, as they were considering how to continue the gospel propaganda mission with the shepherd capable of facing today’s challenges.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh represented India at the ceremony to take charge of Pope Leo Fourteenth in Vatican City. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the Indian delegation met the Pope after the ceremony. It said that Harivansh along with Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton was also present in the ceremony.
