Saturday proved to be a mixed day for India Block. Considering the setback in Maharashtra, the victory in Jharkhand was good to balance the mood of Congress. The results are sure to have a deep impact on India Bloc Maharashtra’s MVA constituents and more importantly, Rahul Gandhi’s track record and ability to win elections. Unlike most other states, Maharashtra Congress has an aggressive and strong organisation. This is the reason why Congress leaders in the state struggle and insist on more seats for the party. Not only this, in the hope of forming the government, Congress has demanded that he should be made the Chief Minister. This upset Maha Vikas Aghadi allies, who felt it was important to remain focused. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is soon scheduled to address BJP workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi after the Maharashtra mandate gave a historic victory to the ruling Mahayuti alliance and ended the MVA’s hopes of returning to power in the state. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed dissatisfaction over the election results and said that these results were unexpected. He further said that the party will analyze the mandate.

The fight for the CM’s chair is believed to be one of the reasons why he faced defeat in the elections as the cadre got caught up in his fight. In Jharkhand, India Bloc crossed the halfway mark and increased its lead as the counting progressed, dealing a blow to BJP’s hopes of returning to power in the state. In Jharkhand, India Block is leading on 57 seats while NDA is leading on 23 seats. Meanwhile, Mahayuti is set to form its government in Maharashtra with a lead of 236 seats till 5 pm. MVA is leading on 48 seats.

The majority figure in the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly is 145 while in Jharkhand it is 41. As of now in Mahayuti, BJP is leading on 134 seats, Shiv Sena on 57 and NCP on 41 seats, while in MVA, Shiv Sena is leading on UBT 20, Congress on 15 and NCP-SP on 9 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit BJP headquarters after 6.30 pm today and address party leaders and workers. NDA was leading in the initial phase of vote counting, but in Jharkhand, the JMM-led India faction left the opposition alliance behind. Since then the ruling coalition has increased its lead.
