Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will meet Union Water Power Minister CR Patil in Delhi on Thursday and will inform them about the state’s objections on the Polavaram (Godavari) -Bankherla river link project proposed by the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh.

Official sources said that the Chief Minister left for Delhi on Thursday morning and will also meet the leaders of the All India Congress Committee and other dignitaries in the national capital.

The purpose of the Polavaram-Banakacherla project is to deliver the surplus water of the Godavari river to the drought affected areas of Andhra Pradesh. Telangana argues that this step is harmful to its water rights.

Reddy, along with state irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, held a meeting with MPs of all parties on Wednesday to collect views on finalizing the state strategy to oppose the project.

Revanth Reddy later told reporters that his government is in the first phase of adopting the traditional outlook of ‘Sama, Daam, Discount, Dand’ to challenge the project in political and legal ways.

The Chief Minister said that when Naidu proposed the project, the state government had immediately complained to Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) and Union Minister CR Patil.
