In the Caribbean Sea, south-west of the Cayman Island, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake tremors were felt after which some nearby islands and countries have urged people living near the coast to go to safe places due to the possibility of tsunami.
The US Geological Survey Department (USGS) gave this information. The USGS reported that a sharp movement was felt inside the sea at 6.30 pm on Saturday evening.
According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was 130 miles (209 km) from George Town of Cayman Island at a depth of 10 km in south-south-south-south. The American National Tsunami Warning Center said there is no tsunami warning for the US main territory, but a tsunami warning has been issued for the Purburto Rico and the American Virgin Islands.
The management department of the Cayman Islands has urged people living near the coast to move to interiors or high places. According to the department, high waves are expected to rise due to tsunami.
Governor Jennifer Gonzalez, Governor of Purta Rico, said in a statement that he was in touch with emergency agencies after a tsunami warning. The Dominica government has also issued a tsunami warning and advised people living on the coast to go to the “20 meters height” areas.
The government has also asked ships to stay away from the sea for the next few hours, the Cuba government has requested people to move away from the beach areas. The National Ocean and Atmospheric administration of the US government said that “some shores of Cuba are expected to rise high waves due to tsunami.
