The Center has decided to send additional 50 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) comprising over 5,000 personnel to Manipur in view of the security situation in the state. Meeting security officials in North Block, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also directed the paramilitary forces to focus on restoring peace and order in Manipur. A day earlier on Sunday, Shah had canceled his political program in Maharashtra to keep an eye on the security situation in Manipur, where elections are round the corner. Later in the day, he held a review meeting with senior security officials at his home which lasted for about four-five hours.

The Center had said in a statement last week that the security scenario in Manipur has been critical for the last few days. The conflict has seen armed miscreants from both communities indulging in violence, resulting in loss of lives of unfortunate people and disruption of public order. All security forces have been instructed to take necessary steps to restore order and peace. Strict action will be initiated against anyone trying to indulge in violent and disruptive activities.
