On 1 February, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025-26. While this budget made the middle class happy, the sports budget was also increased. The government has also increased the amount for the sports sector in the budget of 2025-26. Rs 3,794.30 crore was allocated for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This is Rs 351.98 crore more than the previous financial year.

Let us know that in the last budget, a total of 3,442.32 crore rupees were approved for this ministry. Khelo India has got the highest share in the sports budget for FY 2025-26. Khelo India has been allocated Rs 1,000 crore. This is Rs 200 crore more than a grant of Rs 800 crore for 2024-25. The assistance amount fixed for National Sports Federations has been increased from Rs 340 crore to Rs 400 crore.

This increase is very important. There is no major sports competition like Olympic, Commonwealth or Asian Sports in the next one year. But the government has taken a good decision in the interest of the players keeping the future in mind. The government has invested heavily in Khelo India in the last few years, as this program works to bring talent from all parts of the country.

Indian players performed well in the Paris Olympic and Paralympics. Young players will benefit greatly from increasing budget allocation for programs like Games India. Let us know that the Sports Ministry bears the expenses of practice abroad for the preparation of events like Olympics. India is currently trying to host the 2036 Olympic Games. For this, a letter of intent has been presented to the International Olympic Committee.
