Strong deal between India and China in Russia, Modi showed boss style in the meeting

A bilateral meeting was held between Indian Prime Minister Mafi and Chinese President Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that we welcome the consensus reached on the issues that have arisen across the border in the last 4 years. Maintaining peace and stability on the border should remain our priority. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity became the basis of our relations. Today we got the opportunity to talk on all subjects. Nice to meet you… We believe that India-China relations are important not only for our people but also for global peace, stability and progress.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that PM Modi met President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit. This was their first proper bilateral meeting at the delegation level in almost 5 years, the last meeting having taken place on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Brasilia in 2019. The meeting took place immediately after the withdrawal of troops and patrolling agreement and resolution of issues. In 2020, tension arose in the India-China border areas. The two leaders welcomed the consensus reached between the two sides through sustained dialogue across diplomatic and military channels over the past several weeks. PM Modi underlined the importance of not allowing differences on border matters to disturb peace on our borders. Both leaders said that the Special Representatives on the India-China border question have an important role to play in resolving the border question and maintaining peace in the border areas.

On PM Modi’s bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said the two leaders also reviewed the state of bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. He was of the view that stable bilateral relations between India and China, the earth’s two largest nations, would have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity. Both emphasized that with maturity and wisdom, and by showing mutual respect for each other’s sensitivities, interests, concerns and aspirations, the two countries can build peaceful, stable and beneficial bilateral relations. Restoration of peace and tranquility in the border areas will create space for our bilateral relations to return to the path of normalization. Officials will now take the next step to discuss enhancing strategic communication and stabilizing bilateral relations using relevant official bilateral dialogue mechanisms, including at the level of our respective Foreign Ministers. They also had a very fruitful discussion on BRICS and the possibilities of enhancing cooperation between India and China on this special platform. Finally, Prime Minister Modi also assured India’s full support for China’s SCO presidency next year.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said it is important for both sides to have greater communication and cooperation, appropriately handle our differences and disagreements, and facilitate each other’s development aspirations. It is also important for both sides to live up to our international responsibilities, set an example to promote the strength and unity of developing countries, and contribute to the promotion of multi-polarization and democracy in international relations.
