Sharif wants the PML-N-led coalition government to use all available diplomatic resources to restore peace between the two nuclear-rich countries, saying that they are not willing to take an aggressive stance.
Amid the growing tension between India and Pakistan after India’s decision to suspend the Pahalgam attack and the Indus Water Treaty, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has advised his brother and current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to adopt a diplomatic approach to reduce the growing crisis. After India suspended the Indus Water Treaty in view of the Pahalgam attack, Nawaz Sharif returned from London to Pakistan to help his brother Prime Minister. After his arrival, The Express Tribune reported that Sharif had advised the PML-N supremo to the PML-N supremo to reduce tension diplomatically after giving information about the decisions taken by India in view of India’s decisions in the meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC).
It was said that Sharif wants the PML-N-led coalition government to use all available diplomatic resources to restore peace between the nuclear-rich countries, said that he is not willing to take an aggressive stance. Earlier in 2023, Nawaz Sharif underlined the importance of good relations with India, saying that in 1999 his government was removed because he opposed the Kargil war. According to The News International, Nawaz had said that PML-N always performed well but was always dropped out of power.
Nawaz had said that I want to know why my governments were overthrown in 1993 and 1999. Did this happen because we opposed the Kargil war. Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister of Pakistan, when his government was demolished on 12 October 1999 through a coup. Last year, Nawaz also admitted that Pakistan ‘violated’ the agreement with India in 1999. The former Prime Minister had said that on 28 May 1998, Pakistan conducted five nuclear tests. After that Vajpayee Sahab came here and compromised with us. But we violated that agreement … it was our fault.
