Addressing the ’50 years of Emergency’ program, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that today is the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. A question may arise that why is any incident being discussed now 50 years ago? When 50 years of a national event are completed, whether it is good or bad, his memory in society becomes blurred. If the memory of an emergency like an emergency that shakes democracy disappears, then it is harmful to the nation.

Shah further said that the fight was won because no dictatorship in this country can tolerate. India is the mother of democracy. At that time no one likes the emergency except the dictators and the small group benefiting from it. He was confused that no one could challenge him, but when the Lok Sabha elections were held for the first time after the Emergency, the non-Congress government was formed for the first time and Morarji Desai became the Prime Minister.
Amit Shah said, “It is difficult to define the emergency in a sentence. I have tried to give a definition. The conspiracy to convert a democracy of a democratic country into dictatorship is an emergency….” He said that imagine that you should be put in jail due to the idea of being free. We cannot even imagine how cruel it must have been for the people of India in the morning. Shah said that I was 11 years old (when the Emergency was announced). The impact of the Emergency in Gujarat was very low as the Janata Party government was formed there. But later the Janata Party government fell … I come from a small village. 184 people were sent to jail from my village alone. I will not forget that day and those scenes till death.

Amit Shah said that at 8 am, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced on All India Radio that the President has imposed an emergency. Was the approval of Parliament taken? Was a cabinet meeting called? Was the opposition taken into confidence? Those who talk about democracy today, I want to tell them that they are associated with the party that ate democracy. The reason was stated to be national security, but the real reason was the security of power. Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, but did not have the right to vote in Parliament. He had no rights as Prime Minister. He gave up morality and decided to remain Prime Minister.
