The land of Haryana has given birth to many Karmveers in the country. One such Karmveer is the Speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha and once again the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Panchkula, MLA Gian Chand Gupta. He successfully completed this journey of 75 years of his life with discipline by considering work as his religion. This journey of Gian Chand Gupta was full of struggle. When he became the Mayor of Chandigarh, he beautified Chandigarh and when he became MLA from Panchkula, he transformed the district. Apart from this, after becoming the Speaker of the Vidhan Sabha, he got his own laws made in Haryana and along with this, he started e-Vidhan Sabha.
Gyan Chand Gupta became a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the age of just fourteen. Due to his humble style, he became the favorite of the greatest leaders of the country. Along with the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he became the favorite of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal, Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala as well as the leaders of opposition parties. He was born in a small village of Derabassi. He came to Chandigarh with his father to support the family. He used to work as well as study. He completed his primary education in DAV School. Gyan Chand Gupta studied in Polytechnic.
He also played an important role in forming the Bharatiya Janata Party. When BJP saw his dedication, they made him the state president of Chandigarh. After which he remained the state president of BJP Chandigarh for a long time. A big change came in his life when in 1995, the current Prime Minister of our country Narendra Modi became the in-charge of Chandigarh. He got the opportunity to work under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gyan Chand Gupta himself says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes in discipline and work. Two years later, in 1996, when the Municipal Corporation elections of Chandigarh were held, BJP made Gyan Chand Gupta its candidate.
He won the municipal elections and became the mayor of Chandigarh. Gian Chand Gupta was the mayor of Chandigarh but his popularity was increasing in Panchkula as well. This was the reason why the party asked him to leave Chandigarh and take charge of the party in Panchkula. In 2014, when BJP contested elections under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he was made the party candidate from Panchkula. He won these elections by 48500 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party entrusted him with the responsibility of Chief Whip and Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
In 2019, he contested the election from Panchkula Vidhan Sabha and won. On 4 November 2019, he was elected as the Speaker of Haryana Vidhan Sabha. Gyan Chand Gupta’s political and social life was for the people. Meeting the people of Panchkula personally was his strength. Due to this strength, his political life kept establishing new dimensions of success. Along with development in Panchkula, he also worked to increase facilities for the people. He played an important role in ending the problem of dumping ground, bringing big projects like NIFT, Industrial Area in Barwala. He started e-Vidhan Sabha in Haryana, a model which representatives of other states are now trying to see and follow.
