Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday raised serious questions on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, intensifying the attack on Congress MP and Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi in Lok Sabha. Sarma emphasized that official visits are transparent and involve delegations of officers, security personnel and foreign affairs experts. Addressing the press conference, CM Sarma accused Gogoi of going to Pakistan “secretly” without informing the country.

Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that there is a difference in official diplomatic visits and personal visits. Accusing the Congress MP of justifying the Pakistan visits of others, CM Sarma asked if it means that Gogoi had also gone there. He highlighted that all conversations are recorded during official visits and kept in official records, insisting that it is not appropriate to compare official visits with secret or personal visits.
CM Sarma said in a video posted on X that Jaswant Singh, Narendra Modi, Advani always used to inform the nation before visiting any country. Now, a deputy LoP that raises questions in Parliament should at least know about the basic facts. For example, when the PM of Pakistan comes to India or vice versa, it is an official visit. When our PM travels abroad, he is accompanied by foreign affairs officers, security personnel and a complete delegation, not alone.

He said that every conversation is recorded from beginning to end and placed in official records. All this happens in transparent and daylight. But it is not appropriate to compare such official visits to secret or individual visits. There is a lot of difference between going to national duty and going quietly without telling.
