Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has already made it clear that this visit is limited to the SCO summit only. Apart from this, there is going to be no talk with Pakistan. The world knows this and experts also know what India’s attitude will be towards Pakistan.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Islamabad to attend a conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). This is the first visit of a senior Indian minister to Pakistan in nearly a decade amid strained relations between the two neighboring countries. Jaishankar’s plane landed at Noor Khan Airport on the outskirts of the Pakistani capital at around 3.30 pm local time and he was welcomed by senior Pakistani officials. For the first time in the last nine years, the Foreign Minister of India has visited Pakistan. Relations between the two neighboring countries have been strained over the Kashmir issue and cross-border terrorism from Pakistan.
The External Affairs Minister will lead the Indian delegation at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of the SCO. He wrote on X, ‘I have reached Islamabad to attend the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of SCO.” Jaishankar shared pictures of some children and officials welcoming him with flowers at the airport. Earlier, Sushma Swaraj had visited Pakistan as External Affairs Minister. She visited Islamabad in December 2015 to attend the ‘Heart of Asia’ conference on Afghanistan. At that time, Jaishankar, as the Foreign Secretary of India, was part of Sushma Swaraj’s delegation. Sushma Swaraj had talked to the then Pakistan Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz during that visit. Following the talks between Sushma Swaraj and Aziz, a joint statement was issued in which both sides announced their decision to initiate a comprehensive bilateral dialogue.
