During the first address of his second term in the Congress joint session, the United States President Donald Trump defended his harsh tariff policy, and reiterated that the US is facing high tariffs from many countries around the world including India.

Trump said during his address, “If you do not make your product in America under Trump administration, then you have to give tariffs and in some cases, quite big tariffs. Other countries have to use tariffs against us for decades and now it is our turn that we start using tariffs against those other countries.”it’s so unfair.’

Trump counted the names of the countries that charge “too much” tariffs from the US, including India. Trump said, “On average, European Union, China, Brazil, India, Mexico and Canada … Have you heard about them? And countless other countries charge more tariffs from us, as much as we collect from them. ” He said, “This is very unfair.” Referring to India during his speech, Trump said, “India charges more than 100 percent auto tariffs from us.”

He further said, “China’s average tariff on our products is doubled and South Korea’s average tariff is four times more.” Trump announced that the United States would impose mutual tariffs on several countries, which would start from April 2, not from April 2, as he did not want it to match with “April Fools Day”.
