TTD repairs finger of 1,000-year-old Lord Ram idol

This year, after the establishment of Lord Ram Lala in Ayodhya and the construction of the grand Ram temple, another big update has come out regarding Lord Ram. Now Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has repaired the broken finger of an ancient idol of Lord Rama. This idol is believed to be 1,000 years old.

An official gave this information on Saturday regarding the repair of the statue. According to the temple administration, a finger on the left hand of the idol suffered a minor fracture during the fair of Lord Ram in 2021. After this the temple authorities temporarily covered it with a golden shield. A TTD source told PTI that the statue was found atop a hill and is believed to be a thousand years old.

There is a tradition of repairing damaged idols in Tirumala once in 12 years and the next such occasion will come after five years in 2030. TTD said in a press release, “Since there is still more than five years to go, Jeeyar Swamiji, a committee of Agama advisors and priests recently brought this to the attention of higher authorities during the annual Brahmotsavam at Tirumala and the authorities requested the committee members to organize a Samprokshan (ritual repair) programme.”

As a part of the rituals initially held at the Sampangi Prakaram inside the temple on Tuesday night, Kalpakarshana, Bimba Vastu, Mahashanthi Tirumanjanam and Sayanadhivasam rituals were performed as per the principles of Vaikhanasa Agama. On Wednesday, rituals like special Homa, followed by Purnahuti and Kalvahana were performed.
