Two US citizens, including a woman, were arrested in Bihar’s Madhubani district for allegedly trying to enter Nepal without valid documents. Police gave this information on Sunday.
A senior official said that the arrested American citizens are residents of California. Police also arrested two locals who had provided assistance to them during their stay in Jaynagar area near the India-Nepal border.
According to the police, security personnel of the 48th battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) stopped two American citizens near Betonha border post of Jaynagar police station area on Saturday afternoon when they were going from India to Nepal.
Jaynagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Ankur Kumar told PTI, “They were caught by SSB jawans when they were trying to enter Nepal without valid documents. The arrested US citizens are husband and wife. The Nepal-born woman had acquired American citizenship after marrying an American citizen. Both were jointly interrogated by police, SSB and officials of other concerned agencies.
He said, “The police registered the case and arrested both the American citizens. Two local people have also been arrested for providing material to them.
