Amid growing tension in bilateral relations, India has withdrawn the transmission facility provided to Bangladesh for exports to West Asia, Europe and other countries through its ports and airports, which has left all the arrogance of Muhammad Yunus. Muhammad Yunus, who has been daring to confront India, will recently make two big mistakes and how much ax has been made on his feet, he will realize in the coming days. Right now India has withdrawn only one facility from Bangladesh, then its throat has dried up. If more strict steps are taken, then it will not take time for Bangladesh to come on the knees.

Let us tell you that ‘transmission’ means temporary use of ports, airports or transport routes of a third country to move from one country to another. This step by India has been taken a few days after the controversial statement made by Mohammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, in which he said that the northeast state of India, which has a bound of about 1,600 km with Bangladesh, is surrounded by land from all around and has no way to reach the ocean other than their country. However, India has exempted Bangladeshi exports to Nepal and Bhutan, as the provisions of the World Trade Organization (WTO) are mandatory for land surrounded countries from all four sides. Let us tell you that in 2020, India and Bangladesh had signed an agreement on the transit system and in 2022 this facility for Bangladeshi export was formally increased.
Now that the facility of transmission from Bangladesh has been lost, its businessmen are shocked and they are cursing Muhammad Yunus. How beneficial this facility was for Bangladesh, you can guess from this that the transit goods sent from Bangladesh for re-export at the Petrapol land port located in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal had increased by 46 percent during FY 2023-24 and 2024-25. However, after the decision that canceled transit facility by the Government of India, no truck laden with Bangladesh’s transit goods has come from Petrapol border since April 9. Let us tell you that out of about 50-60 trucks from Bangladesh before April 9, about 15-20 trucks were carrying containers filled with clothes ready for Western markets like Europe and America. When the transit facility was discontinued, an official of the Clearing Agent Staff Association in Benapol, Bangladesh said that there is no good news for exporters of the apparel industry passing through heavy stress due to global demand. This will affect the border trade. The expiration of this facility is believed to have increased the costs of Bangladeshi exporters, especially the goods sending goods to the markets of Europe and West Asia. According to the data, most of the readymade clothes from Bangladesh were sent to European markets like Spain, especially before Christmas. Officials said that trucks bring truck consignment from Bangladesh, after which Indian vehicles take them to Kolkata or Delhi airports. But now this work has stopped due to which stakeholders including truck operators and laborers are facing losses.
Let us remind you that India had allowed transit of export goods to third countries from Bangladesh through Indian ports and airports from 29 June 2020 and later through Indian ports and airports. However, on April 8 this year, the Government of India canceled the transit facility.
However, there is another reason behind this decision of India. In fact, the Indian side was unhappy about Younus and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement issued by Bangladesh about the meeting of the BIMSTEC summit in Bangkok on April 4. It is being told that India was angry with Dhaka’s statement about the meeting between Yunus and Modi, especially the attacks on minorities and requests for Hasina’s extradition. The people associated with the case had described the statement issued by Bangladesh in connection with the meeting between Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh and Prime Minister Modi, as “mischievous and inspired”. Let us tell you that Muhammad Yunus press secretary Shafiqul Alam had said in a ‘Facebook’ post that the interim government of Bangladesh raised Bangladesh’s request for Hasina’s extradition in front of Modi in a meeting held in Bangkok and “response was not negative.” Sources had said the official statements of Bangladesh and the ‘Facebook’ post on the meeting and said that the ‘Facebook’ post on the meeting The Indian Prime Minister’s comments about the description of were “wrong”.

However, it has to be seen who comes forward to help Muhammad Yunus, who is trying to improve relations with Pakistan and China? It has to be seen what he takes the next step in protest? By the way, it is certain that India is ready to give a strong answer to whatever steps he takes.
