The counting of votes for the by -election in Kaliganj assembly seat in Nadia district of West Bengal has started at 8 am today. The Election Commission has made comprehensive security and logistics arrangements to ensure smooth process. After the 13th round of calculation, the Trinamool Congress is ahead of 29,749 votes. Election Commission officials said that Trinamool Congress candidate Alipha secured 59,329 votes while his nearest rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ashish Ghosh got 29,580 votes. Congress candidate Kabiluddin Sheikh, supported by Marxist Communist Party (CPI -M), secured 19,516 votes. He said that the counting of votes started with the counting of postal ballots at eight in the morning amid tight security arrangements and the process of calculation is going on peacefully.

The Trinamool Congress is leading the victory, while West Bengal Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee thanked the people of Kaliganj and thanked him. In February, due to the sudden demise of Trinamool Congress MLA Naseeruddin Ahmed, it was necessary to hold a by -election in the Kaliganj assembly seat. His daughter Alifa Ahmed (38) has been fielded from this seat as a Trinamool Congress candidate. The by -election in Kaliganj was held on June 19 and was 69.85 percent polling as per the records recorded till 5 pm. Except for sporadic incidents, voting was largely peaceful.
