There has been a massive protests since the arrest of Istabul’s Mayor and opposition party leader in Türkiye. Roads and metro stations have been closed there. It is being described as the biggest performance ever. There are reports of frequent clashes between police and protesters who took to the road to stop the protests. The police are staining rubber bullets, tear gases shells and chilli gas shells against the protesters. Hundreds of protesters have also been arrested.
What is the whole matter
Ikram Imam Imamoglu, the mayor of Istabul and the biggest leader of the opposition, was taken into custody on March 19. He has been accused of supporting corruption and terrorist organization. There is also a case of fake degrees. Demonstrations started after his arrest on 19 March. First Istabul then Ankara and gradually the performance spread to dozens of cities. More than 100 people have been detained in this demonstration. These include journalists, activists, doctors and people of different profession. Imamoglu, who has been in custody from March 19, has been arrested for his official form on 23 March. March 19 was the day when the opposition was about to declare Imamoglu as its presidential candidate.

Police used tear gas
Police used tear gas on protesters in Ankara, Turkey, after the arrest of Istanbul’s Mayor Acrem Imamoglu, on the night of 23 March and till Monday morning. Footage filmed by Dokuz 8 News journalist Yusra Bathan shows police officers making water showers on a large crowd of protesters, who were marching against Imamoglu’s arrest along with several other leaders opposing President Recep Tyap Erdogan. According to the Associated Press, Erdogan’s administration said the arrests were part of the investigation into alleged corruption and terrorism. Erdogan said that the days of taking to the streets, taking leftist organizations, marginalized people and miscreants with them and the days of raising their fingers at national will is now over. Those days when politics and justice were directed by terror on the road, they have become a matter of old Türkiye as well as past. We will definitely not allow CHP and its supporters to disrupt public system through provocation and disturb the peace of our country.
