The budget of the judiciary comes from the state and it is not for the judges, the CJI said, adding that judges need new court buildings, new residences in districts and for this meetings of the Chief Justice and the Chief Minister are necessary. Earlier on September 10, there was a political uproar when PM Modi visited CJI Chandrachud’s residence on the occasion of Ganesh Puja. Congress had attacked PM Modi calling it a wrong tradition. PM Modi had written in a post on social media handle X that CJI attended Ganesh Puja at the residence of Justice DY Chandrachud. May Lord Shri Ganesha bless us all with happiness, prosperity and wonderful health.
CJI Chandrachud said that every institution can be improved, but it should not be concluded that there is something fundamentally wrong with it. He was talking about the collegium system. Responding to a question on the collegium system of appointment of Supreme Court and High Court judges, the CJI said it is a federal system where responsibility has been given to different levels of governments (both central and state) and the judiciary.
