Dubai . Yemen’s Houthi rebels launched a suspicious attack targeting a commercial ship passing through the southern end of the Red Sea. However, there was no loss of life or property in this attack. Houthi rebels have been attacking ships passing through the waterway for the past several months. Normally one thousand billion US dollars worth of goods passes through this waterway every year. The attack was triggered by the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza and Israel’s ground attack in Lebanon.
The British military’s ‘United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Centre’ (UKMTO) issued an ‘alert’ saying that the ship was passing near the Bab al-Mandeb strait connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden when its captain Saw that “the missile fell very close to the ship”. The attack took place about 48 kilometers west of Yemen’s port city of Mocha. “The ship and crew are safe and on their way to their next port,” UKMTO said. The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack.
