Efforts are on to set a meeting between Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs advisor Tauheed Hussain. The meeting is expected to be held on the occasion of the Indian Ocean Conference, which will be held on 16–17 February at Muscat in Oman. If there is a conversation between Jaishankar and Hussain, this will be their second meeting since August 5, when Sheikh Hasina -led government fell in Bangladesh. His first meeting was held in New York in September last year on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session. A few days after Hasina left for India, Mohammad Yunus became the head of the interim government. The relationship between the two countries worsened after attacks on Hindus and the arrest of Saint Chinmay Krishna Das.

The Eighth Indian Ocean Conference (IOC 2025) is scheduled to be held in Muscat on 16–17 February. The conference, organized by the New Delhi -based Research Institute ‘India Foundation’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign Foreign Dialogue, serves as a major platform for regional dialogue. According to the news of the ‘Prothom Alo’ newspaper, the meeting between the two leaders is scheduled during the conference. Diplomatic sources indicated on Sunday that Bangladesh could use this meeting to convey a message to prevent further stress in bilateral relations between the two countries.

It has been said in the news that last month, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar invited Bangladesh’s foreign advisor to attend the conference. If there is a proposed meeting between Hussain and Jaishankar, this will be the second round of their talks in five months. Hussain and Jaishankar first met in New York during the United Nations General Assembly session last year. In August last year, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister due to large -scale anti -government protests and moved to India. After this, the relations between the two countries became quite tense.
