At the beginning of the match, Zimbabwe lost the toss and batted first. However, openers Tadivanashe Marumani and Joylord Gumbi made a bright start and took their team past 50. But later Gumbi was run out. After this, Pakistan’s spinners Salman Ali Aga and Sam Ayub put pressure on Zimbabwe’s middle order. Captain Craig Erwin and Dion Myers also could not last long.
However, there came a time in the middle when it seemed that Zimbabwe would not be able to reach even 150 runs, during which Sikandar Raza and Richard Ngarwa made an important partnership of 62 runs. Nagarwa faced the Pakistani bowlers bravely and scored 48 runs. While Raza contributed 49 runs, with the help of both of them, Zimbabwe managed to score 205 runs.

The pair of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza came in handy for Pakistan. Sean took the wickets of Kamran Ghulami and Irfan Khan, while Raza sent Salman Ali Aga and Habibullah Khan to the pavilion, after which Pakistan’s back was broken. Pakistan’s score in 21 overs was just 60 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. Then the match had to be stopped midway due to rain and Zimbabwe won the first ODI by 80 runs through DLS method.
