Uttar Pradesh government will ban the travel of passengers on tractor-trolleys: Dayashankar Singh

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh). The Uttar Pradesh government will soon convene a high-level meeting to ensure compliance with the ban on use of tractor trolleys for passenger transportation so that precious lives of people can be saved. This decision has been taken in view of several accidents involving passengers traveling on tractor trolleys. The latest accident involving tractor trolley took place on October 4, in which 10 laborers died. The incident took place in Mirzapur when they were returning to their home in Varanasi. Even after October 4, many accidents involving tractor-trolleys have been reported from different parts of Uttar Pradesh.
“We will soon convene a high-level meeting to discuss ways to curb the use of tractor-trolleys for passenger transportation,” Uttar Pradesh Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh told PTI. ”To strictly enforce the rules on tractor-trolleys and also to create necessary awareness among the people in rural areas who prefer tractor trolleys for commuting, possibly because they consider it a cheaper and easily accessible option “
As per rules, tractor-trolleys are not allowed to carry people on general or private travel. Tractor-trolley can be used to go to a project site or farm for commercial/agricultural work. The minister acknowledged that these rules are often violated and said strict enforcement is needed.
The minister said, “Our intention is to create awareness among people that even though they may think that tractor trolleys are an easy and safe option, nothing can be more precious than life. We will see whether putting up posters with such awareness messages has any impact or not. “Also, we will move forward for strict enforcement and for this we will convene a high-level meeting soon.” In February, 23 people traveling on tractor trolleys lost their lives in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh. Earlier in October 2023, six people traveling on tractor trolleys were killed in Hathras and 14 others died in a separate road accident involving trolleys in Shahjahanpur in April. In October 2022, 26 people were killed in a similar accident in Agra.
