The last rites of famous folk singer Sharda Sinha were performed today with full state honors at the ghat in Patna. Son Anshuman Sinha lit his funeral pyre. He said that my mother traveled through music for 55 years, supported ‘folk culture’ and further enriched it. The culture he gave to his children was from this ‘folk culture’, he told us about its importance. Sinha further said that he sang many types of songs, but he got the blessings of Chhath songs and hence Chhath became global. There was a deep relationship between these two.

He was undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. She was 72 years old. The mortal remains of the popular folk singer were brought to Patna from New Delhi by air on Wednesday. Many ministers of Bihar were present at Patna airport. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited his house and placed a wreath on the mortal remains. Union minister and BJP national president JP Nadda is expected to visit Sinha’s house on Thursday evening.

Sharda Sinha, known as ‘Bihar Kokila’, sang many folk songs and Chhath festival songs including ‘Kartik Mas Ijoriya’, ‘Suraj Bhaile Bihaan’. He also sang hit Hindi film songs like ‘Taar Bijli’ and ‘Babul’. His passing on the first day of Chhath festival is also a kind of coincidence, which made people more emotional. Many people are calling it a rule of law. Sinha, a trained classical singer, was widely respected for her blend of classical and folk music in her singing. She was often called ‘Begum Akhtar of Mithila’. She was a devoted Chhath worshiper and released a new song on the occasion of the festival every year despite her declining health.
