Even though Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party has been in power in Delhi with absolute majority for the last 10 years, it is worried about some seats. This is why AAP is busy strengthening its weak links keeping in mind the Delhi Assembly elections to be held in February next year. After inducting a strong Congress leader from Seelampur into the party a few days ago, Kejriwal has given ticket to BJP leader Brahm Singh Tanwar, three-time MLA from South Delhi seat, by including him in his party in October.
Kejriwal wanted a strong candidate in Chhatarpur
Six months ago, BJP had defeated the then MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar from Chhatarpur seat of Delhi Assembly constituency. Tanwar had resigned from AAP and the post of MLA and joined BJP. AAP was lacking a strong candidate on this seat. On Brahm Singh Tanwar joining the party, AAP national convenor Kejriwal said that Tanwar is a prominent leader of Delhi, who has been a three-time MLA from Chhatarpur and Mehrauli constituencies. With their involvement you will become stronger. Tanwar said that he was impressed by Kejriwal’s working style and enthusiasm towards serving the people and promised to work with dedication for AAP.
Know who Tanwar is
Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Chhatarpur seat, Brahm Singh Tanwar has been MLA thrice. He had also once been a councilor of a ward in Delhi. They are believed to be present in Chhatarpur and Mehrauli areas. He was considered a strong leader of Delhi BJP. He was associated with the party since its inception and was jailed during the Emergency. He contested his first election as an independent candidate in 1977 and was elected councilor.
Kartar Singh Tanwar had joined BJP along with former minister Raj Kumar Anand in the AAP government. Kartar Singh Tanwar was elected on AAP ticket in the 2020 assembly elections. He was a junior engineer in Delhi Jal Board. He started his political innings in 2007. Before AAP he was in BJP. In a way, he has returned home. He has also been a councilor in Delhi Municipal Corporation. Due to both the Tanwars, it is expected that there will be a close contest on Chhatarpur seat in the upcoming assembly elections.
