Only a few days are left for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to start. This tournament, to be held under the hybrid model, will be held in three cities of Pakistan, Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore as well as Dubai. The hosting of the tournament is in the hands of Pakistan while all the matches of Team India will be held in Dubai. But before the start of this tournament, a new controversy has arisen. Actually, the name of Pakistan, the main organizer of this tournament, will not be on the jersey of Team India this time.
A new controversy has emerged from this tournament to be held in Pakistan and Dubai, in which India had allegedly objected to Pakistan being printed on Team India’s jersey. India is set to play its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, however, Pakistan remains the official host of the tournament.
A PCB official spoke to PTI on this matter. During this, the official said that BCCI is doing politics in cricket by not printing the name of Pakistan on the jersey of Team India. Earlier, BCCI had also reportedly refused to send captain Rohit Sharma to Pakistan for the captains’ meeting for the Champions Trophy.
A PCB official told IANS on Monday on the condition of confidentiality that BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. He has refused to go to Pakistan. They do not want to send their captain to Pakistan for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they do not want the name of the host country to be printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body will not allow this to happen and will support Pakistan.
Despite a lot of pressure from the PCB, the BCCI did not change its stand on refusing to send Team India to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Ultimately the Pakistan Cricket Board had to agree to India’s terms, however, under the new agreement the PCB would not be able to send its team to India for ICC events in the future.
