Team India fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has won the ICC Mains T20 International Cricketer of the Year 2024 Award. There were a total of four players in this award race. 25 -year -old Arshdeep has beaten Pakistan star batsman Babar Azam, Australia’s Travis Head and Sikander Raza of Zimbabwe. Arshdeep has won this award for the first time.
The Indian bowler performed well last year. He made a mark in consecutive matches. Arshadeep took 36 wickets in 18 T20 matches in 2024. He was the smallest format bowler to take the highest wicket for India. Only four players took more T20 International wickets than Arshdeep in the calendar year. Ahead of them were Usman Najib of Saudi Arabia, Vanindu Hasranga of Sri Lanka, Junaid Siddiqui of UAE and Ehsan Khan of Hong Kong.
In the T20 World Cup held in the US, Arshdeep showed his mastery of powerplay and final overs. At the end of the tournament, he was jointly the highest wicket -taking bowler with Afghanistan’s Fazalhak Farooqui. He took 17 wickets in eight matches at an average of 12.64. With his brilliant performance, India registered a dramatic win of seven runs over South Africa in the final, taking two wickets for 20 runs. He quickly dismissed South Africa captain Eden Makram and then prevented Quinton de Kock to prevent a big partnership. Arshadeep bowled in the final over, giving just four runs, making the work easier for Hardik Pandya.
Arshadeep was India’s highest wicket -taking bowler in 2024, taking 36 wickets in 18 matches at an average of 15.31. This year, he took four wickets for nine runs, performing well against the United Host America of the T20 World Cup. Arshdeep is the highest wicket -taking bowler in this format for India with 97 wickets.
