A big controversy broke out in the North Zonal Inter University and All India Inter University Kabaddi Championship 2024-25 held on Friday in Bathinda, Punjab. The dispute between the women Kabaddi players of Tamil Nadu and Bihar started when the Tamil Nadu team accused the Darbhanga University team of Bihar of foul play.
The players of Mother Teresa University of Tamil Nadu alleged that the referee was in favor of their opposing team since the beginning of the match, after which the situation became tense. Wrong attacks by the Darbhanga University team and negligence by the referee further increased the controversy. When the Tamil Nadu team protested, the referee allegedly assaulted a player, leading to a scuffle between the two teams.
Supporters of Darbhanga University also jumped into the dispute and escalated the fight. Many videos of this incident went viral on social media. In which supporters of both the teams were seen throwing chairs and tables at each other. Some men were also seen in the video, about whom it was not clear whether they were officers or spectators.
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin described the incident as unfortunate and said that the players suffered minor scratches. He also said that there was a dispute regarding points during the match. Stalin said that it was a small incident, now everything is under control. The players have been given first aid and will stay in Delhi. Soon he will leave for Chandigarh.
