As a pilot, Biju Patnaik successfully carried out adventurous missions in many countries besides India. When the Dutch invaded Indonesia in 1948, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru gave the responsibility of helping Biju Patnaik to free Indonesia from the Dutch. After which Patnaik reached Jakarta as a pilot in 1948 with an old Dakota aircraft. He attacked many rebel areas and brought with him the prominent rebels Sultan Shahryar and Sukarno to Delhi. After this Sukarno became the first President of independent Indonesia. Later, for this bravery, Patnaik was given honorary citizenship of Indonesia and was awarded the highest honor of Bhoomi Putra.
