A division bench of Justice BV Nagaratna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said that it was unfair to move the case as the High Court is monitoring the case before the CBI court, which has been directed to hear on day-to-day basis.
The Supreme Court rejected the petition seeking to transfer the case of disproportionate assets against former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister (CM) YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to some place outside Hyderabad and outside Andhra Pradesh. The apex court dismissed the transfer by hearing the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Deputy Chairman Raghu Ram Krishna Raju of Andhra Pradesh. In his petition, Raju alleged that the state machinery is being manipulated in favor of the former CM.
A division bench of Justice BV Nagaratna and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma said that it was unfair to move the case as the High Court is monitoring the case before the CBI court, which has been directed to hear on day-to-day basis. The petition was filed in 2023 when Raju was a Member of Parliament (MP) representing YSR Congress Party. The petition was filed against his party leader and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. However, in March 2024, Raju changed parties and joined the TDP.
According to his petition, the former CM illegally earned assets worth Rs 40,000 crore and ensured that criminal cases against him remained inactive, which did not make any significant progress. The surprising thing is that the state machinery is very happy to be a mute spectator on this misuse of the judicial process, which has been converted into a friendly mail between the accused and the prosecution.
