Cancer is a complex group of diseases with an uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. It contains more than 100 different diseases that affect different organs of the body. These cells can form mass called tumors. Which can interfere with the normal functioning of the body. While cancer can affect anyone. They are classified into types such as carcinoma, sarcoma, leukemia and lymphoma. The reasons for this include genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors, including symptoms ranging from unemployed weight loss to frequent fatigue. Cancer prevention includes lifestyle changes such as tobacco avoiding, healthy diet and vaccination. Awareness and knowledge are important for effective management and initial identity.
World Cancer Day is celebrated on 4 February to increase awareness about cancer and encourage its prevention, identity and treatment. World Cancer Day was born on 4 February 2000 at the World Summit against Cancer for New Millennium in Paris. The primary goal of World Cancer Day is to reduce the deaths caused by cancer and disease. In 1933, the International Cancer Control Association celebrated World Cancer Day for the first time in Geneva in Switzerland.
Cancer is a disease that causes panic as soon as you hear the name. A person suffering from cancer is more afraid of the name of cancer. The person who gets cancer goes through serious torture, along with that his family also has to go in a very painful situation. Apart from being fatal, the patient also has to face a lot of physical pain in cancer. Cancer disease is so frightening in which the death of the patient is considered to be sure. Due to the pain of the disease and fear of death, the marriage dies by suffocating. On this day, to increase awareness about cancer, educate people, to take action against this disease, it is celebrated to convince governments and individuals around the world and to save millions of people from dying every year.
The New Delhi -based Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said that cancer is not being properly monitored in most areas of the country. Due to which the disease is delayed in most cases. Wrote letters to all the research centers of the country, ICMR has sought proposals to make cancer tests and monitoring easier. In order to promote cancer monitoring and investigation in all the districts of the country, the Central Government has entrusted the responsibility to ICMR to formulate a new policy under National Health Research. Separate research teams will be formed for this and scientific facts will be collected based on the current status of geographical and health services.
Every year more than one crore people around the world die of cancer disease. Out of which 40 lakh people die ahead of time (age group 30-69 years). Therefore, the demand of the hour is that along with increasing awareness about this disease, a practical strategy should be developed to deal with cancer. Premature deaths due to cancer by 2025 are estimated to increase to more than one crore per year. If the World Health Organization has achieved a target of 25 percent reduction in premature deaths due to cancer by 2025, then 1.5 million lives can be saved every year.

India has the highest number of cancer patients in the world after America and China. 1.93 crore new cancer patients have appeared in 2020. Of which there are more than 1.4 million Indians. According to the National Cancer Registry Program of the Indian Council of Medical Research, the number of cancer cases in the country is estimated to increase from 14.6 lakh in 2022 to 15.7 lakhs in 2025. For which the government needs to make the medical system stronger. Only then cancer patients can be identified on time and their lives can be saved by doing correct treatment.
Cancer cases are increasing continuously in India. Statistics of the National Cancer Registry of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) suggest that cancer cases have reached 1.5 million in the country in 2023. Apart from this, there will also be thousands of cases which will not be found. Cancer cases in India are continuously increasing. By 2040, cancer cases in India will increase by 57.5% to 20 lakh 80 thousand as compared to 2020. According to (ICMR), more than 1.3 million new cancer cases are reported in India every year. Doctors who treat cancer disease also believe that this danger is continuously increasing. Measures such as early identity, risk reduction and management of cancer disease are necessary.
Looking at the ICMR data, 1426447 cases of cancer were reported in the National Cancer Registry Program in 2021. In 2022, this number increased to 1461427 and in 2023 1496972 cases were reported. One in every 9 person is likely to get cancer during his lifetime. There are many cases of lungs in men and breast cancer in women. The risk of lymphoid leukemia has increased at the age of 14 years. Cancer cases are estimated to increase by more than 10 percent in 2025 compared to 2020. Statistics show that 7,70,230 people in India in 2020, 7,89,202 in 2021 and 8,08,558 people in 2021 and 8,08,558 people have died.
World Cancer Day 2025 theme is the United Bio-Unic, which defines the important role of individual, patient-centered care in the fight against cancer. Cancer detection, types of cancer and causes, diagnoses and treatment have been greatly progressed. But it is a matter of regret that most of the population of the world has still not reached basic health services. Which includes care of pregnant women and newborns, regular vaccinations, sexual and reproductive health services and treatment of chronic diseases. We can prevent the disease by spreading awareness about cancer prevention, training health care professionals, implementing effective community based plans.
World Cancer Day is an opportunity for everyone to work together to reduce the effect of cancer on the world. By increasing awareness, promoting education, encouraging others to work morally and supporting in the fight against cancer is to save the lives of people that can be stopped and corrected. By unitedly and by acting, we can reduce our health, our economy and our souls in the form of a society.
Cancer is the main cause of death worldwide. According to the report of the World Health Organization (WHO), about one crore people died of cancer in 2023. In which the highest number of cases of breast and lung cancer were reported. According to WHO, increasing awareness of cancer worldwide can help reduce the number of deaths due to cancer by 30-50 percent. The best way to deal with the challenge of cancer should be increased by starting talks with people about this issue. Only then can people protect life from fatal disease like cancer.
