Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday withdraws from its stance regarding industrial development in Kerala, saying that the state needs more ‘MSME start-up’, but it should not be just on paper.
Tharoor expressed disappointment on the state’s start-up landscape, sharing the news of an English daily on ‘X’ and said that it is not as promising as it is being told.
He said, “It was disappointed to see that the story of Kerala’s start-up entrepreneurship is not as told.” The news shared by Tharoor claimed that more than 42,000 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were shut down in Kerala in the last nine years, resulting in at least 1,03,764 workers.
The Congress leader said in his post, “The only good thing is that at least the claims of the government point to the right intentions.” We need more MSME start-up but not only on paper. Kerala should move in this direction! ‘
At the same time, State Industries Minister P Rajiv dismissed the news as “baseless”. He said, “I gave a detailed reply in the assembly on 10 February. Recently, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal had said in Parliament that 1,700 MSMEs have been closed in Kerala in the last four years. ”
Rajiv said that 30 percent of MSMEs in the country are closed within their first year while in Kerala this figure is only 15 percent. He alleged that the report has been published for a specific purpose as it does not mention the source of data.
