Senior Karnataka police officer Ramchandra Rao, whose daughter and actor Ranya Rao was arrested on Monday with 14.8 kg of gold at Bangalore Airport, said she was shocked. Rao, who is the Director General of Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation, said that he was not aware of the incident until the report came in the media. The senior police officer told ANI, “As a father, I was shocked and broken when I came to know about it.”

The senior police officer said that she is not living with us, she is living separately with her husband. There would have been some problems between them due to some family issues. Anyway, the law will do its job. There is no black stain on my career. I do not want to say anything more than this. The Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) said on Wednesday that the gold rods seized from Ranya Rao at Kimpe Gowda International Airport were priced at Rs 12.56 crore.
DRI officials said 14.2 kg of gold is one of the biggest seizure at Bengaluru Airport in recent times. The Finance Ministry said in a statement, “Based on specific intelligence, DRI officials stopped an Indian woman of about 33 years, who came from Dubai from the Emirates flight on March 3. When examined, gold rods weighing 14.2 kg were found hidden on her body.

After the blockage, DRI officials searched Ranya Rao’s residence on Lavel Road in Bangalore, where she lives with her husband. In the search, ₹ 2.06 crore gold jewelery and ₹ 2.67 crore Indian currency were seized. The ministry said that the actor was arrested under the relevant provisions of Customs Act, 1962 and was sent to judicial custody. Ranya, originally from Chikmagalur, studied engineering in Bengaluru before appearing in films. He made his debut in Kannada Cinema from Manikya (2014) and later starred in Tamil films Wagah (2016) and Kannada Comedy Pataki (2017).
