Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Mauritius on a two -day state visit, met Mauritius President Dharambir Gokhul and first woman Vrinda Gokhul at Port Louis. The Prime Minister presented him with the holy water of Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, the superfood Makhana of Bihar and the idol of Lord Ganesha. The Prime Minister also presented the Banarasi saree to the first woman of Mauritius in the Saideli box. Banarasi saree, which comes from Varanasi, is a symbol of luxury and cultural heritage, and is known for her excellent silk, complex brocade and grand zari work.

This magnificent saree comes in royal blue color, adorned with silver zari shape, wide zari boundary and richly elaborate pallu, which makes it ideal for weddings, festivals and grand ceremonies. This saree also has a plain box in Gujarat, which has a complex flesh work designed to keep precious sarees, jewelery or memorable items. According to a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in a special gesture, the Prime Minister handed over the OCI card to the President and the first woman of Mauritius. The Ministry of External Affairs said that during the meeting at the State House, PM Modi and President Gokhul exchanged ideas on deepening the special and intimate bilateral relations between India and Mauritius. In this context, he recalled shared history between the two countries and the existence of relations between strong people.

The statement of the Ministry of External Affairs said that Prime Minister Modi said that it is an honor for him to join Mauritius’ National Day celebrations for the second time. The Prime Minister also visited the Ayurveda Garden at the State House established in collaboration with the Government of India. The Prime Minister said that Mauritius is an important partner of India in advancing the benefits of traditional medicine including Ayurveda.
